Profile AI

Jaclyn Johnson is a biomedical researcher whose work centers on experimental toxicology and neurobiology, with a focus on how metabolic disorders and environmental agents alter organ structure and function. Her studies integrate histomorphology, molecular assays, and immunohistochemistry to investigate mechanisms of tissue injury in animal models.

A major theme in her research examines the combined effects of diabetes, alcohol exposure, and combination antiretroviral therapy on the hippocampus. This work highlights oxidative stress, inflammatory cytokine imbalance, impaired neurogenesis, and blood–brain barrier disruption as pathways contributing to neurodegeneration and cognitive vulnerability in comorbid conditions.

Johnson has also contributed to environmental toxicology through investigations of atrazine-induced cardiac, hepatic, renal, and cerebellar damage in Xenopus laevis. By linking structural alterations with apoptotic signaling and calcium pathway perturbations, her publications advance understanding of how environmentally relevant toxins threaten organ integrity and species health.
