Azra Ghoor is a South African clinician-researcher whose work focuses on paediatric infectious diseases, neonatal outcomes, and global child health. Affiliated with major academic hospitals in Johannesburg and collaborating with international partners, her research contributes to understanding the burden of early-life infections in low- and middle-income countries, particularly across sub-Saharan Africa.

Her scholarship centers on the long-term neurodevelopmental, emotional-behavioral, and economic consequences of invasive group B Streptococcus disease. Through multi-country cohort studies, she has advanced evidence on childhood impairment, quality of life, and health system costs, informing vaccine policy discussions and maternal immunization strategies. She has also examined tuberculosis diagnostics in children and genomic medicine implementation in African infant populations.

Earlier work addressed neonatal cranial ultrasound abnormalities, empyema management in high HIV and TB settings, and health systems challenges in resource-limited contexts. Across clinical epidemiology and implementation research, her contributions strengthen data-driven approaches to improving child survival, long-term developmental outcomes, and equitable access to diagnostic innovation.
