Dr. Sugeshnee Pather

Sugeshnee Pather is a South African academic pathologist whose work centers on HIV-associated malignancies, infectious diseases, and immune dysregulation in high-burden settings. Affiliated with leading academic hospitals in Johannesburg, her research integrates diagnostic pathology, molecular techniques, and clinical correlation to address cancers and infections prevalent in the region.

Her publications highlight expertise in lymphoma pathology, particularly HIV-associated DLBCL, plasmablastic lymphoma, and Hodgkin lymphoma, with emphasis on MYC alterations, EBV biology, and prognostic markers. She has advanced understanding of tumor–immune interactions, including the role of CD4+ T cells in endemic Burkitt lymphoma, and contributed important real-world data on lymphoma outcomes in people living with HIV.
