Dr. Meghan Botes

Meghan Botes is a South African scholar in emergency and primary health care, with a strong focus on strengthening emergency systems at district and facility level. Her work spans emergency nursing, critical care, and health systems research, with particular attention to the realities faced by practitioners in Gauteng and other provinces. She also contributes to discourse on health law and ethics in public health emergencies.

Her research explores emergency care at primary health care level, including consensus-based policy recommendations, practitioner experiences, and system gaps in the chain of survival. Studies on handover practices, cardiopulmonary resuscitation knowledge, and family presence during acute deterioration highlight her commitment to improving clinical competence, teamwork, and patient- and family-centred care in emergency settings.

Botes further examines legal and ethical dimensions of health crises, including geospatial surveillance, informed consent, and mental health governance.
