Mrs. Ora Gerber-Schutte

Ora Gerber-Schutte is a South African researcher whose work focuses on forensic psychiatry and public mental health. Her scholarship engages critically with the intersection of mental illness, gender, and the criminal justice system, with particular attention to under-researched female populations within forensic settings.

Her research on female observandi referred for non-violent crimes provides important clinical and socio-demographic insights, highlighting the role of psychiatric disorders, substance use, and treatment adherence in assessments of trial fitness and criminal responsibility. This work contributes to improving standards of care in forensic psychiatric evaluations and foregrounds gender-sensitive perspectives in criminal mental health.
