Dr. Janine White

Janine White is a South African public health scholar whose work centres on health systems, social exclusion, and the health workforce. Affiliated with the University of the Witwatersrand, she is closely associated with the WiSDOM longitudinal cohort study of health professional graduates. Her research engages national debates on universal health coverage and National Health Insurance, with particular attention to equity, migration, and transformation in health professions education.

Her publications demonstrate sustained expertise in migrant health, examining provider attitudes, policy frameworks, and health system responsiveness in Gauteng Province. Using social exclusion and institutional ethnography frameworks, she highlights how legislation, workplace cultures, and frontline practices shape access to care.
