Dr. Heinrich Volmink

Heinrich Volmink is a South African health systems and policy researcher whose work bridges global health, economics, and complexity science. His scholarship spans national health reform, health financing, and global governance, with a strong focus on equity and system resilience. Drawing on experience in public health and policy analysis, he engages critically with how institutions shape population health and development trajectories.

Recent research advances the concept of the “brain economy,” positioning brain health and cognitive capacity as central to sustainable economic development. Additional contributions explore scaling science in health and social care, highlighting ethical lenses and stakeholder engagement in framework design, as well as conceptualizing the global health system as a complex adaptive system to strengthen transnational resilience.

Earlier work includes applied health economics and modelling, such as cost-effectiveness analyses for chronic disease management and epidemic forecasting during COVID-19. Policy-oriented publications address South Africa’s health system transformation and national planning.
