Aspro Tobias Chirwa

Tobias Chirwa is a biostatistician and public health researcher widely recognized for advancing quantitative health research and capacity-building across Africa. Affiliated with leading academic institutions in Southern Africa, his work integrates rigorous statistical methodology with pressing health challenges, while actively promoting doctoral training and sustainable biostatistical development through South–North collaborations.

His research centers on infectious disease epidemiology, particularly malaria and tuberculosis, using advanced spatial, survival, and multilevel modeling techniques applied to national surveillance and demographic datasets. Contributions include analyses of malaria implementation fidelity, spatio-temporal mapping, TB recurrence outcomes, and child mortality, generating policy-relevant evidence to strengthen health systems and disease control strategies.

Chirwa has also made notable contributions to cancer epidemiology, examining multimorbidity, HIV comorbidity, and treatment adherence among women with breast cancer in South Africa.
