Dr. Prudence Tabea Nana Ditlopo

Prudence Tabea Nana Ditlopo is a South African health policy and systems researcher affiliated with the University of the Witwatersrand. Her scholarship centres on health workforce governance, nursing policy, and primary health care reform. She has played a key role in the WiSDOM longitudinal cohort study, generating influential evidence on the career trajectories, socio-economic backgrounds, and labour market experiences of health professional graduates.

Her publications highlight nurse practice environments, workload, professional support, and their effects on job outcomes and quality of care, alongside analyses of policy processes shaping nursing education and workforce reforms. Through rigorous qualitative and quantitative methods, including structural equation modelling and policy analysis frameworks, she advances understanding of participation, governance, and transformation within South Africa’s health system.

Recent work extends to early career health professionals’ experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccination uptake, and workplace support, as well as social accountability and transformation in health professions education.
