Dr. Samuel Agbo

Samuel Agbo is a public health researcher whose work centres on HIV care, primary health systems, and community health in South Africa. His scholarship focuses on strengthening service delivery in district health settings, with particular attention to the integration of mental health, tuberculosis prevention, and reproductive health within HIV programmes.

His research explores barriers to effective antiretroviral therapy management, including delayed switching to second-line treatment and systemic challenges faced by frontline nurses. He has also examined the prevalence and correlates of common mental disorders among people living with HIV, highlighting the implications for treatment adherence and viral suppression.

Beyond HIV care, his work addresses health behaviour and risk factors in vulnerable populations, including reproductive decision-making and physical activity among the elderly. Across studies, Agbo demonstrates strength in applied, facility-based research that informs policy, supports integrated primary care, and advances patient-centred interventions in resource-constrained contexts.
