Aspro Raquel Duarte

Raquel Duarte is a physician–scientist and internationally recognized expert in tuberculosis, affiliated with leading Portuguese institutions and active in European respiratory networks. Her work bridges clinical practice, public health, and policy, with sustained involvement in international guideline development and collaborative research groups focused on TB control and drug resistance.

Her recent publications highlight major contributions to updated clinical practice guidelines for drug-susceptible and drug-resistant tuberculosis, supporting shorter, all-oral regimens and improved access to novel agents such as bedaquiline and pretomanid. She also examines drug availability and resistance testing across Europe, and advances infection prevention strategies and genomic insights into Mycobacterium tuberculosis, reinforcing evidence-based TB elimination efforts.

In parallel, her research extends to pharmacogenetics and translational medicine, including studies on antiretroviral- and transplant-related nephrotoxicity in African populations, as well as molecular oncology and biomaterials.
