Adj Kebashni Thandrayen

Kebashni Thandrayen is a South African paediatric endocrinologist and metabolic bone specialist based at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital and the University of the Witwatersrand. Her work centres on childhood bone and mineral disorders, with a strong focus on conditions affecting vulnerable populations in low- and middle-income settings. She is widely recognised for advancing clinical care and research in paediatric metabolic bone disease across Africa.

Her publications highlight expertise in vitamin D deficiency, nutritional rickets, and metabolic bone disease of prematurity, including contributions to major reference texts and leading journals. She has led and collaborated on clinical studies examining glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, vertebral fractures, and bisphosphonate therapy in children, helping to inform evidence-based management of paediatric bone fragility.

Additional research spans genetic and rare metabolic disorders, pseudohypoparathyroidism, and syndromic renal and mitochondrial disease, as well as child health challenges such as hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children.
