Stephanie Van Straten is a surgical outcomes researcher whose work centres on global surgery, perioperative risk prediction, and health systems strengthening. Closely involved in major international collaborative studies, her research addresses disparities in postoperative mortality and complications across diverse income settings, with a focus on improving quality and safety in gastrointestinal and cancer surgery.

Her publications highlight expertise in prognostic modelling and external validation, including development of the GloSSI score for surgical-site infection and validation of the OAKS model for acute kidney injury.
