Dr. Mandisa Nyati

Mandisa Nyati is a clinical researcher focused on HIV treatment, maternal and child health, and long-term outcomes of antiretroviral therapy in sub-Saharan Africa. Contributing to major international collaborations such as IMPAACT, PROMOTE, ODYSSEY, and SMILE, her work informs global guidelines on dolutegravir-based regimens across pregnancy, infancy, and adolescence.

Her research spans safety and efficacy of antiretroviral regimens in pregnant women, infants, and children, including neuropsychiatric effects, renal safety, bone mineral density, and metabolic outcomes. She has examined integrase inhibitor–based and NRTI-sparing strategies, supporting optimized pediatric and maternal HIV care while addressing concerns around neurotoxicity and treatment-related adverse events.

Nyati also investigates reproductive health and long-term ART exposure among women living with HIV, highlighting contraception access, fertility intentions, and chronic health risks. Through multi-country cohort and randomized trial analyses, her work strengthens evidence for integrated HIV and reproductive services and advances equitable, evidence-based care for women and children.
