Dr. Givemore Munhenga

Givemore Munhenga is a medical entomologist whose work centers on malaria vector biology and control in South Africa. Affiliated with leading malaria research initiatives in KwaZulu-Natal, his scholarship supports national elimination goals through integrated vector management, entomological surveillance, and operational research aligned with public health programmes.

His research focuses on Anopheles arabiensis and other members of the Anopheles gambiae and funestus complexes, examining insecticide resistance, vector competence, host preference, and climate-driven population dynamics. He has advanced understanding of larval ecology, heavy metal pollution effects on mosquito microbiota, and epigenetic and immune mechanisms influencing transmission potential.

Munhenga has also contributed to laboratory optimisation of mosquito rearing and the development of genetic sexing strains to support Sterile Insect Technique interventions. His work bridges field surveillance, molecular biology, and modelling approaches, generating evidence that informs vector control strategies and resistance management in southern Africa.
