School of Oral Health Sciences

The School of Oral Health Sciences is a school in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. It brings together ten departments, among them Community Dentistry, Oral Biological Sciences, Oral Pathology, Orthodontics and Prosthodontics.

Its publication record points to research strengths in public oral health, oral health promotion, community dentistry, oral pathology and maxillofacial and oral surgery. Work also addresses temporomandibular disorder management and restorative and prosthetic dentistry.

Further themes include health equity, access to care, caregiver knowledge for children with special needs, and workforce development. The research is focused on South Africa and the wider Southern African region, with attention to frail and marginalised populations.
