Nursing Education

The Department of Nursing Education is part of the School of Therapeutic Sciences in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. It is a department within the school, which in turn sits in the faculty.

Its research centres on nursing education, with a strong emphasis on self-directed simulation learning, access to simulation laboratories and the development of clinical skills. Studies also examine student support and inclusive training environments, including the experiences of LGBTI students and nurse educators.

Further work addresses community health and mental health, including caregiver burden, psychosocial health, community health workers and women's health, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa. This research contributes context-specific evidence on caregiver-orientated services and community-based healthcare.
