Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy is a department in the School of Therapeutic Sciences, within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. School and faculty sit above it in the university structure.

Its research strengths, as shown by its publications, include pharmaceutical sciences, drug delivery systems, biomaterials, pharmacology and public health and health services research, with work also on infectious diseases and cardiovascular health.

Further themes include HIV care and antiretroviral therapy outcomes, hypertension awareness, community pharmacy practice and pharmacist-led prevention, alongside liposomal technologies, hydrogels and secretome-based therapies. The research is focused mainly on South Africa and Southern Africa.
