Orthodontics

The Department of Orthodontics is part of the School of Oral Health Sciences in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Its research strengths lie in orthodontics, dentistry and oral health, with work addressing malocclusion, craniofacial growth and dental morphology. Publication data show attention to treatment outcomes, dental arch dimensions and the development of the dentition.

Further themes include cephalometry and clinical orthodontic care, including patient experiences of treatment such as clear aligners. Studies draw on South African patient groups, with research focused on South Africa and its oral health needs.
