Paediatric Pulmonology

The Department of Paediatric Pulmonology is part of the School of Clinical Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Its research focuses on paediatric respiratory medicine, including childhood tuberculosis, asthma, lower respiratory tract infection and lung function in children. Studies also address HIV-related lung disease and bronchoscopy in paediatric care.

Further themes include the epidemiology of respiratory illness in infants and young children, the diagnosis and management of complicated pneumonia, and respiratory complications in children with underlying conditions. The research is centred on South African study populations, particularly children in Johannesburg and surrounding areas.
