Community Paediatrics

The Department of Community Paediatrics is part of the School of Clinical Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Its research strengths, as shown by the publication data, include maternal and neonatal health, quality improvement in public health facilities, health system resilience during crises such as COVID-19, severe malnutrition management and implementation science, with work on scalable, context-responsive models and workforce mentoring.

Further themes include child development and early-life determinants of wellbeing, caregiver mental health, adverse childhood experiences, HIV context and behavioural outcomes, largely through longitudinal cohort work; the research is focused on South Africa.
