Pulmonology

The Department of Pulmonology is part of the School of Clinical Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. It is a department within the school.

Its research covers respiratory and critical care medicine, with strengths in critical care, sepsis management, fluid therapy and thromboprophylaxis. Publications also address corticosteroid stewardship, airway disease, and community-acquired pneumonia.

Further themes include HIV-associated respiratory disease, infectious diseases and nutrition in resource-limited settings, with work on pragmatic guidance for low and middle income countries and on Southern Africaepidemiology and health systems.
